Hallmark Resident Starts Glass Recycling
Some of The Hallmark residents are putting their used wine bottles to good use. Not long after moving to The Hallmark, Mrs. Blake, noticed all the bottles that were being thrown away after meals and happy hours. So, with the help of a friend, she started picking them up and taking them to be recycled. Soon, our own Mr. John offered his services by bringing the bottles to the Houston Recycling on Westpark.
Word spread and the operation grew! The happy hour bartenders started saving their bottles and give them to Mrs. Blake. Hallmark residents have started leaving bottles outside her front door too! Mrs. Blake said “it’s fun, it’s a good project, and it’s gratifying.” There’s a simple kind of excitement when she opens her door and sees a bottle or an entire bag filled with bottles next to her entry way and she doesn’t know who delivered them but she’s glad they did!
Houston has recently undergone a project and partnered with Strategic Materials, the largest glass recycler in America, to make it easier for Houstonians to recycle glass products. The CEO of Strategic Materials says this increase in glass recycling will help keep ten thousand to fifteen thousand tons of glass out of city landfill a year!
