The Bells of Easter

As we stand at the Church on Easter Day,
What do the bells in the steeple say?
Do they sing of hats and the praise of men,
Or do they call us back to the era when
A lonely Man on a cross was hung
Where days before “Hosannas” rung?
Do they tell of that band of a faithful few
Who grieved the death of the Lord they knew,
Then heard the angels “He is risen!”
“And opened for you the Gates of Heaven”?
As we stand at the Church on Easter Day,
What do the bells in the steeple say?
Do they tell that Easter is real and near
For all who open their hearts to hear
The promise of Christ’s “Come unto me”
And the place he prepares in the world to be?
Not a memory of years gone by
When they saw a Man on Golgotha die,
But a living, vital chance for birth
And Life Eternal beyond this earth!
As you stand at the Church in the April dew,
What do the bells of Easter say to you?
